Steelers | Bettis Reaches Milestone

Teresa Varley, of Steelers.com, reports Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jerome Bettis became the fifth player in NFL history to surpass 3,000 career carries Sunday, Nov. 23, against the Cleveland Browns. The four other running backs to accomplish this feat are: Emmitt Smith (4,117), Walter Payton (3,838), Barry Sanders (3,062) and Marcus Allen (3,022). "Coach (Dick) Hoak came over and congratulated me," said Bettis. "That's big. I've been very blessed and fortunate to be able to play that long and take that many shots. With 3,000 carries, that's 3,000 hits. I may have run out of bounds 10 or 15 times, but other than that, I got about 2,950 hits."
