The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Dan O'Neill reports St. Louis Cardinals RP Evan Rust, 25, RHP, was 2-2 with a 3.25 ERA in 26 games at Triple-A Durham in 2003. He opened the season at Double-A Orlando, where he went 1-3 with 11 saves and a 2.65 ERA. Rust (6-1, 210) totaled 31 saves in 2002 between stints at Class A Bakersfield and Orlando, and over the last two seasons, he allowed only two home runs in 127.1 innings of relief work. He was signed by Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent out of St. Mary's (Calif.) College in June 2000. He will be invited to Cardinals' camp in February with a chance to earn a spot in the bullpen.
