Redskins | Smith Has Contract Reworked

Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports the Washington Redskins have reworked the contract of veteran DE Bruce Smith by transforming a $750,000 salary bonus to base salary for the 2003 season. Smith was originally due the bonus if he would have overtaken former DE Reggie White for the all-time sack record. Smith needs three sacks to break White's record. The team also placed a $1 million incentive bonus in Smith's contract if the team makes the playoffs in 2003. The reworked contract will benefit the team's salary cap for 2004.
