We all know there were some extremely questionable calls and some flat out blown calls in the most crucial of situations in this year’s MLB playoffs.

It started with Joe Mauer’s double down the left-field line that was called foul in the ALDS; it was clearly fair, by a mile! Then there was the double play that wasn’t in the ALCS when both Jorge Posada and Robinson Cano were tagged at third base and neither was exactly touching the bag.

There were many more examples of poor calls made under the microscope of playoff baseball that raised the question: Does baseball need to expand instant replay?

Marc Lancaster, of The Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Carlos Pena (hand) will miss the rest of the season with fractured index and middle fingers on his left hand. Pena was struck by a pitch from New York Yankees starting pitcher CC Sabathia and left in the first inning of doubleheader Monday, Sept. 7.

This is terrible news for fantasy owners of Pena and the Rays, who will now probably find it more difficult to make the playoffs after making it to the World Series last year. Pena hit .227 with an American League-leading 39 home runs and 100 RBIs in 135 games this year. Want more? Keep reading…
