After his one-goal, one-assist, +2 performance in Thursday’s 4-3 shootout loss to the Bruins, Thrashers RW Maxim Afinogenov has jumped to the forefront of fantasy hockey watch lists. Janet Eagleson sang his praises, pointing out that he is skating with Ilya Kovalchuk and that he now has 19 points in 18 games.
To this we will add that the Thrashers are a scoring machine. Their 3.56 goals per game ranks second in the NHL, behind only the Capitals. Given these circumstances, how is it that Afinogenov, 30, remains only 42.4 percent owned in ESPN formats and 43 percent owned in Yahoo! games? To read more, click over to Fantasy Hockey Genius.

Whether or not this is the end of the line for Philadelphia Eagles RB Brian Westbrook (concussion), it’s an appropriate time of year to pay homage to him as a fantasy force.
It was roughly one year ago today that the fantasy community was ready to bury Westbrook anyway. Want more? Keep reading…

Now that the two-week fantasy fascination with Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis is over, there’s something I’m dying to get off my chest about the Redskins in general and Davis in particular. Want more? Keep reading…

Quick: Which Bruins player has scored the most in the absence of C Marc Savard (foot)? LW Steve Begin, who tallied the game-winner Wednesday in Boston’s 3-2 win vs. Nashville and scored the game-tying goal in Thursday’s 4-3 shootout loss at Philadelphia. Perhaps this isn’t too surprising. Begin seldom skated with Savard anyway; he doesn’t have to adjust to the loss of a gifted pivot. To read more, click over to Fantasy Hockey Genius.

Can LJ return to previous glory against San Diego?
I’m high on Chiefs RB Larry Johnson. I believe he’ll amass more than 100 total yards and find the end zone vs. the Chargers this week. Here’s why:
• He’ll get the touches. In each of his last five games, Johnson has totaled at least 18 carries. In three of those five games, he has caught three passes. Want more? Keep reading…

A fantasy tease?
Despite his hat trick last night, I am not targeting Senators LW Milan Michalek in a trade. He has never been a point-per-game scorer. I know he is only 24 years old; I recognize that as the former sixth overall pick (2003), he has pedigree. Wake me up when he logs his first 70-point season. New Orleans Saints WR Lance Moore is the most forgotten man in fantasy land.

Fantasy players need more out of Moore
He is owned in only 28 percent of Yahoo! leagues and 56.5 percent of ESPN formats. He has just three catches for 39 yards. Owing to a hamstring injury, he has missed two of four games. But I’m not giving up on Moore. Consider: Want more? Keep reading…

When I read that 49ers WR Michael Crabtree was flying to San Francisco, my first thought was: Is he worth a fantasy roster spot?

Too early to give up on Royal?
Held to four yards on one catch in Week 3, Broncos WR Eddie Royal is deep in the fantasy doghouse.
How deep? In the 12-team, PPR league in which KFFL contributor Eric McClung and I compete, one owner dropped Royal to snag 49ers TE Vernon Davis. Overall, Royal’s ownership is down to 74 percent in Yahoo! leagues and 89.3 percent in ESPN leagues. Want more? Keep reading…

In Las Vegas, the Patriots remain Super Bowl favorites. Apparently, oddsmakers believe the loss of DE Richard Seymour is no big deal.
Maybe it isn’t: Seymour’s ostensible replacements, DE Jarvis Green and DE/OLB Derrick Burgess, are tested veterans; moreover, the Patriots won key playoff games without Seymour in 2004-05. Seymour was also missing while the team raced to a 7-0 start in 2007.
But a deeper look at Patriots history tells a different story. Want more? Keep reading…
