Fantasy baseball trade deadline thread

Your headquarters for fantasy baseball analysis of Major League Baseball's trade deadline moves

[UPDATE 8:57 p.m. ET] Some shortstop notes: A reminder that with Rafael Furcal now a member of the St. Louis Cardinals, Dee Gordon will carry the load at SS for the Los Angeles Dodgers. If you're hurting for speed and/or a 6er, scoop him up.

The Orlando Cabrera swap opens up time in Cleveland for Jason Kipnis' full-time duty, improving his mixed-league value. He's not as safe an option in shallows unless you're desperate. As for O-Cab, Miguel Tejada (back) is still weeks from returning, so he's a last-ditch rental in mixed leagues who might be relegated to part-time duty when Tejada comes back.

[UPDATE 4:25 p.m. ET] The Boston Red Sox have acquired SP Erik Bedard and RP Joshua Fields in a three-team deal which also involves the Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Dodgers. The Mariners will receive OF Trayvon Robinson from the Dodgers and OF Chih-Hsien Chiang from the Red Sox. The Dodgers will receive C Tim Federowicz from the Red Sox and two additional minor leaguers.

Though Bedard's new park isn't as helpful (6.99 career ERA at Fenway Park), he'll have much more run support now that he's actually playing for that team. If he's still available in your league, pounce.

Robinson is an elite speed prospect that could immediately see a chance in Seattle; if not this year, he'll be in camp next season. AL-only players should go after him immediately, and deep mixed speed chasers could take a shot, as long as they don't go overboard on a bid.

Chiang is having a stellar campaign at Double-A Portland and gives Seattle even more outfield depth. The 23-year-old is a stashable prospect in dynasty setups

Washington Redskins: A model of futility

By Keith Hernandez | Categories: Foul Territory

If you are a Washington Redskins fan, you might want to stop reading now… Please. Do yourself a favor and turn away. KFFL colleague Cory Bonini opined yesterday that the 'Skins have passed Al Davis and the Oakland Raiders as the worst run organization in the sport. And I wholeheartedly agree. Seriously, can you argue [...]

New York Mets-San Francisco Giants trade awaits Carlos Beltran’s OK

By Tim Heaney | Categories: Fantasy Baseball,MLB,MLB Breaking News

New York Mets OF Carlos Beltran

Beltran to the Bay

The San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets have reached an agreement on a trade that will send OF Carlos Beltran to the Giants, but Beltran now has 24 hours to accept, which he is expected to do. The Mets will pick up a good chunk of the $6 million left on Beltran's deal. The deal is believed to be centered around SP Zack Wheeler.

When this goes through, Beltran won't see a big change in value. He'll play in another pitcher-friendly park. He'll miss having Jose Reyes hitting in front of him and David Wright batting behind him, but Beltran has regained the thump in his bat that makes him a threat in any stadium or lineup.
