Mark Martin winning in Phoenix was no surprise. In fact, it could be just the first victory in what may become his best-ever season.
Many wrote Martin off after the first four races of the season. His average finish in that time was 31.8. He suffered two engine failures in that time, but rest of the Hendrick garage was struggling too. Jeff Gordon led the organization with an average finish of 5.8 in the first four races, but Jimmie Johnson was running along at an uncharacteristic clip of 18.3 and Earnhardt Jr. only managed an average finish of 21.8 in that same period.
