Detroit Lions would be fools taking a quarterback early

The Detroit Lions are not ready for quarterback Matthew Stafford or any other rookie quarterback for that matter.

Owners of the No. 1 and No. 20 picks in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft, the Lions need to start building from the bottom up. They need a base for a young quarterback to work with, not be neck deep in a massive rebuilding process. Mock draft after mock draft show the Lions taking a quarterback with the No. 1 pick. Jay Cutler just doesn’t get it

The Denver Broncos recently tried to shop Jay Cutler, and the young quarterback didn’t take kindly to the idea of being dealt elsewhere. Since then, the former Vanderbilt Commodore has spoken with new head coach Josh McDaniels and owner Pat Bowlen in a conference call that, reportedly, didn’t quite go as planned.

The point of the aforementioned call was to extend the olive branch from both sides to smooth out any potential animosity. As the story goes, Cutler wasn’t exactly pleased with McDaniels’ supposed brash demeanor. The rookie coach apparently let it be known that he wanted Cutler to return but that the gunslinger needed to realize it is McDaniels’ team and that calling the shots belongs to the coach. Want more?
