Here are some important changes around the league through the start of the 2009 NFL free-agent market:
Kansas City Chiefs acquire QB Matt Cassel
The Chiefs get their quarterback of the present and the future; plus the Patriots show their hand in their belief quarterback Tom Brady (knee) is healthy for 2009!
Tampa Bay Buccaneers trade for TE Kellen Winslow
K2 and his attitude are out of Cleveland. Can he continue to be an elite NFL and fantasy football tight end in Tampa Bay? He has got the job done with scrubs at quarterback before, so Tampa Bay – regardless of who starts at quarterback – may be no different.
RB Fred Taylor agrees with the New England Patriots
If any team can grab a veteran player on the downswing and have him pick up his level of play, it is the Patriots. Can they find lightning in a bottle with Freddy T? We will find out soon enough, but I really like this move.
There will definitely be more to come!

The 2009 NFL free-agent market got off to a bang Friday and hasn’t slowed down. However, the highlight so far may be the New England Patriots trading quarterback Matt Cassel to the Kansas City Chiefs along with linebacker Mike Vrabel.
The Chiefs may have got a steal, too, as it just cost them a second-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft. Want more? Keep reading…

Alex. Come on.
Heed the legal advice that KFFLian Bryce McRae gave yesterday!
Your cousin shouldn’t be atop your list of personal drivers at this time. What’s next? Stopping off at the local Cold Stone with Angel Presinal? Maybe it’s time to fire those image consultants….
And no, before you get any ideas, Alex, that is NOT the cream you’re thinking of. Want more? Keep reading…

Yes, folks, you read the title correctly, it’s Hockey Time. The trade deadline is approaching, the playoff races are heating up and even Markus Naslund is getting down and dirty, engaging in his first “fight” since the days of the Hartford Whalers.
Why did Markus explode in pure Naslundian fashion last night? Well, he might be feeling the pressure now that fiery coach John Tortorella is in town. Torts isn’t the coach that will put up with the lackadaisical play that has been part of Naslund’s repertoire in the past. But mores to the point, why did he fight? Want more? Keep reading…

He is undoubtedly a Hall of Famer. He is likely the best player at his position of his generation. He may even be the second best at the position to ever suit up. He may also be one of the most understood players in league history. He may even be guilty of attempted murder.
He is Marvin Harrison. Want more? Keep reading…

We’re in keeper season right now. That is, some leagues have stipulations in their rules to let go of some players and keep others. Some keeper leagues preserve a full roster and waive players to take part in every year’s draft or during in season free-agent pickups. The numbers of players are set in your league rules. I played in a keeper league for a few years and was good at it.
I believe the difference is how you approach players you keep. I do believe in a few approaches, and I think they can help you, too. Many owners who consistently find themselves in the driver’s seats will read this and go, “What’s the big deal, that’s how it should be,” but most owners don’t. There are other approaches; I just believe in thinking from the big picture, competing to win every year with a balance of maturing youth and low-cost veterans that can still produce. That is, players who are dropping in drafts that can come in and contribute for your fantasy team merely being backups. Want more? Keep reading…

The news is never short of interesting tidbits – both useful and humorous. It’s all straight from KFFL’s MLB Hot off the Wire in the last week or so.
The fantasy baseball gatekeeper
News: Alfonso Soriano said he’s feeling good entering 2009 and devoted a large amount of time in the offseason to strengthening his legs. “I’ve got to find out what works,” Soriano said. “Every year, I get injured in my legs.”
Thoughts: We know. I’m not sure why players wait this long to address a chronic problem. Kudos, but he’s a big risk until I see evidence. I don’t like headaches in my first couple of picks. Want more? Keep reading…

“No.”
The most amazing thing about language is how easily meaning changes. Perhaps the most influential factors in that regard are the speaker and the audience. All it takes is one word.
“For the record, have you ever used steroids, human growth hormone or any other performance-enhancing substance?” Katie Couric asked Alex Rodriguez on Dec. 16, 2007, on “60 Minutes.” Want more? Keep reading…

Kurt Warner has lost no love.
Obviously, the 37-year-old passer who was on the losing end of Super Bowl XLIII knows what it’s like to be defeated, though. All the Arizona Cardinals do.
“I don’t think you get over it,” Redbirds defensive end Antonio Smith emoted to the Arizona Republic after the big game. Want more? Keep reading…
