Buccaneers

KFFL's sleeper prediction for Josh Freeman didn't get off to a hot start, but he may have to pass his arm off to keep up with the Giants in Week 2. Given how decimated the secondary is, Freeman has upside.

Rookie tailback Doug Martin worked for every yard in his debut and may have to do the same against a New York defense that is poised to rebound after an embarrassing Week 1 loss. Temper your expectations.

Tampa Mike Williams caught a touchdown but was rather forgettable otherwise. The Giants' focus should be on stopping Vincent Jackson, making him a risky start this week. Regardless, both WRs should have value due to the injury and depth concerns in the home team's defensive backfield.

Dallas Clark should be kept in reserve until you see more from this passing game or better matchup.

Giants

Eli Manning is a starter, of course, and is expected to rebound from last week's rather paltry showing.

Fantasy owners would be wise to play Ahmad Bradshaw until he gives you a reason (injury) not to. David Wilson ... not so much. His Week 1 fumble put him in the dog house. However, there is only one way to regain a coach's confidence....

Hakeem Nicks is still working his way back from a foot injury that has left him sore. Play him at your own risk. Tampa Bay can be had through the air, but that is only if receivers actually catch passes thrown their way. Victor Cruz should make amends for last week's rough outing.

Martellus Bennett is a red zone threat and a sly fantasy play for owners in deep leagues.

Buccaneers latest news and notes

Buccaneers | Several in mix for No. 3 WR job

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WRs Tiquan Underwood, Kevin Ogletree, Steve E. Smith and Chris Owusu are expected to be candidates for the No. 3 wide receiver job.

Buccaneers | Three DTs to compete for starting job

Tampa Bay Buccaneers DTs Akeem Spence, Derek Landri and Gary Gibson will compete for the starting nose tackle job during offseason workouts and training camp.

Buccaneers | Coach not ruling out Mike Glennon starting

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said he believes QB Mike Glennon can play quickly and has not ruled out the possibility of Glennon taking over the starting job over QB Josh Freeman. "We have a starting quarterback. It's not like we're looking to find a starter. But competition is competition. Mike Glennon is a fierce competitor. I knew that when he was coming out of high school. Now being able to work with him a little, you can see it on the practice field," Schiano said.

Buccaneers | Waive Willie Moseley

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers waived LB Willie Moseley Friday, May 17.

Buccaneers | Mike Glennon not taking a back seat

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Mike Glennon is not going to take a back seat when it comes to competition with the team. "First I just want to be a good teammate," Glennon said. "I'm going to be a good teammate to all the guys, to the quarterbacks, to the line, to everybody. And earn the respect that way and kinda take everything in and listen to what they have to say. But at the same time, I don't know if taking a backseat would be the right term because I'm a competitor and I'm going to do whatever I can to compete. So at the same time, though, I understand I'm a rookie and it's a process, and I'm just going to worry about getting better each and every day and let things play out that way."

Giants latest news and notes

Giants | Slow progress in talks with Victor Cruz

The New York Giants are making slow progress in contract talks with restricted free-agent WR Victor Cruz on a long-term contract. The two sides are expected to resume negotiations this week.

Giants | Looking for Aaron Curry to lose weight

The New York Giants would like LB Aaron Curry to lose about 10 pounds before the start of season. The team believes Curry can help out at either strongside linebacker of middle linebacker.

Giants | Morgan Newton signs

The New York Giants signed undrafted free-agent TE Morgan Newton (Kentucky).

Giants | Andre Brown could be poised to start

New York Giants RB Andre Brown could be poised to start in 2013. "This is my year," Brown said. "I have to go out there and I have to produce. I feel like this is a very important season and I have to go out there and show the world what Andre Brown is made of."

Giants | Nothing imminent on Charles Woodson

The New York Giants are not close to signing free-agent CB Charles Woodson (Packers) and no visit has been scheduled. The Giants would need Woodson to be OK with signing a one-year deal for close to the veteran minimum for a deal to be struck.
