Steelers latest news and notes

Steelers | Heath Miller likes TE corps

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (knee) said he likes the tight ends on the roster and believes they can all contribute to the team. "We have a really good room, a lot of capable guys in there," Miller said. "I think maybe one of the best top to bottom that I've been starting camp with. Hopefully we'll be able to keep everybody healthy, and I think everybody is capable of contributing and doing a good job." There is a strong possibility that Miller will not be ready for the start of the regular season.

Steelers | Matt Spaeth understands role

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers TE Matt Spaeth might start the regular season as a starter if TE Heath Miller (knee) is not ready. However, he is considered a strong blocking tight end, which would help trigger the running back. He understands he probably won't see the ball as much as Miller did even as a starter. "I'm a role guy, and I know I've got a role, and I never worry about how many balls are being thrown to me," Spaeth said.

Steelers | Heath Miller might not be ready for opener

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (knee) is out indefinitely following knee surgery, and there is a strong chance he will not be ready for the start of the regular season.

Steelers | No contract talks with Ryan Clark

Pittsburgh Steelers FS Ryan Clark said his agent and the team are not talking about a contract extension at this point. Clark said he hopes the two sides talk about some point during training camp. He will be a free agent next offseason.

Steelers | Matt Spaeth could start early in year

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Matt Spaeth could be the team's starting tight end early in the season if TE Heath Miller (knee) is not able to play.

Bengals latest news and notes

Bengals | Team returning to TV show Hard Knocks

For the second time in five seasons, the Cincinnati Bengals will appear as the featured team on HBO's series "Hard Knocks: Training Camp." Philadelphia Daily News reporter Paul Domowitch originally reported the story, which was later confirmed by The Cincinnati Enquirer.

Bengals | Robert Sands cut

The Cincinnati Bengals waived FS Robert Sands.

Bengals | Andre Smith to miss minicamp, to be fined

Cincinnati Bengals OT Andre Smith is will miss minicamp this week, according to head coach Marvin Lewis. "He's dealing with something he's got to get through." According to Joe Danneman of Fox 19 in Cincinnati, Lewis indicated that Smith is absent because of a personal reason not related to his January arrest for gun possession in an Atlanta airport. Smith's absence is also unrelated to his contract or on-field issues, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Lewis stated that the Bengals will find Smith for not showing up. "You have to be fair. There have to be ramifications," the coach said, according to Danneman. Smith can be fined $66,150 if he misses all three days of the mandatory minicamp. He didn't attend any of the team's organized team activities.

Bengals | Andre Smith a no-show for mandatory minicamp

Cincinnati Bengals OT Andre Smith did not report Tuesday, June 11, to mandatory minicamp but has been in contact with the team and should arrive shortly. His absence is related to a personal issue.

Bengals | Adam Jones pleads not guilty

Cincinnati Bengals CB Adam Jones pleaded not guilty to an assault charge stemming from his arrest for allegedly striking a woman on the evening of Wednesday, June 5. On Monday, June 10, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said of the incident to ESPN, "We're aware of it and will review the facts at the appropriate time."
