Miami Dolphins OG Nate Garner rotated in at left guard and center during organized team activities (OTAs) Tuesday, May 21. He was the team's backup right tackle last season.

Miami Dolphins TE Michael Egnew began team drills in organized team activities (OTAs) Tuesday, May 21, ahead of TE Dustin Keller. Head coach Joe Philbin said Egnew earned the reps after a strong offseason.

Dolphins | Lamar Miller works with first-team offense

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller worked predominantly with the first-team offense, but RBs Daniel Thomas, Mike Gillislee and Marcus Thigpen also saw carries Tuesday, May 21, in organized team activities (OTAs).

Dolphins | Jamar Taylor undergoes surgery

Miami Dolphins CB Jamar Taylor (hernia) was in Philadelphia Tuesday, May 21, undergoing surgery to repair a sports hernia. The recovery time is three to six weeks, and he is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.

Dolphins | Brian Hartline could return punts

Miami Dolphins WR Brian Hartline is getting a look at returning punts at organized team activities. Hartline has never returned punts and will compete with RB Marcus Thigpen. "Possibly, but in what situations, I couldn't tell you," Hartline said of potentially returning kicks. "But they [coaching staff] made a point to tell me to go and catch punts every day."

Jets | Mike Goodson to plead not guilty

New York Jets RB Mike Goodson will plead not guilty to all charges, with the most serious being a second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. If convicted, Goodson would face a minimum three-year prison sentence under the Graves Act. Goodson's defense is confident they will show that he was not in possession of the gun. Goodson also faces a third-degree possession of a loaded handgun and marijuana and paraphernalia charges.

Jets | Could name starting QB soon

New York Jets QBs Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith are expected to compete for the starting quarterback job this offseason, but the quarterback competition could be settled well before the team even heads to training camp in July. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg wants one of the two QBs to separate himself from the other, and if that happens this week, the team isn't against naming their starter early. "Common sense tells you that you hope it's quick, but this is going to be a full blown competition. Period," Mornhinweg said.

Sanchez, because of his experience, has the advantage to take control of the early competition. Smith, who spent much of his college days in shotgun, is spending a ton of time taking snaps from under center during OTAs with quarterbacks coach David Lee. Mornhinweg knows that the longer their QB competition lasts, the less time the winner will have to work with the first-team offense. The team also won't just name a starter to name a starter, they want a clear winner in the competition.

Jets | Mike Goodson meets with team officials

New York Jets RB Mike Goodson was in attendance at the team's first OTA practice Monday, May 20, but only to meet with team officials following his arrest on drug and weapons charges last week. Goodson didn't participate or watch the team's workouts, and his future with the team is uncertain. If Goodson pleads guilty or is convicted of unlawful possession of a handgun, he'll be subject to the Graves Act, which is a New Jersey law that carries a minimum of three years in jail.

Jets | Did not show interest in Brian Hoyer

The New York Jets did not express interest or make an offer to Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer before he signed with the Browns.

Jets | Teammate does not think Mike Goodson will stay

New York Jets OG Willie Colon said he does not think RB Mike Goodson will remain with the team after being arrested earlier this week. "It's one of the things where it's zero-tolerance with stuff like that," Colon said. "It's sad. Mike could have been huge for us."
