Chien-Ming Wang rising from the rubble
Remember Chien-Ming Wang? The ground-ball artist whose career has been buried by injuries is rehabbing for the Washington Nationals to the tune of positive reports:
Last night in Harrisburg, Wang made another sterling rehab start, his most impressive performance on any mound in more than two years. He allowed a Class AA lineup no runs in five innings, yielding only two hits and no walks while striking out two and producing a cavalcade of groundballs. He hit 92 miles per hour with his fastball and pitched consistently between 88 and 90. That’s good enough – in 2007, when he won 19 games, Wang’s fastball average 92.7 miles per hour.
Washington has to decide on where Wang will pitch once his 30-day rehab period ends July 27. Tap your mouse here for more »
Spring Flings: March Madness, closer conundrums and sleeper sensations
I filled out my bracket in about five minutes today. Typically, the more thinking I do, the worse my entry performs. I have Richmond going to the Sweet 16 and Washington going to the Elite 8, mainly because I've heard some sleeper chatter on both.
And no, I didn't pick Boston University, my alma mater, to upset Kansas.
Final Four: Ohio State, Duke, Notre Dame and BYU, with Duke topping Notre Dame in the title game.
I'm far from an authority, so don't ask for any more tips.
In three days, it's St. Patrick's Day. Get your Guinness ready. But that isn't the real party. Tap your mouse here for more »
Trust the Jordan Zimmermann
Last week I examined the Washington Nationals' most burningest questions heading into 2011. I left one off but couldn't ignore it.

Stephen Strasburg, All-Star? Can you squeeze any magic out of Wandy Rodriguez?
Why not put Stephen Strasburg in the All-Star Game? It's for the fans, anyway. It's what they want. It's good for ratings. It'll help the NL "make it count" in that exciting sixth-inning Midsummer Classic tension, right, Bud? Imagine Stras pulling a 1995 ALDS Randy Johnson and trotting out onto the field in relief.
OK, maybe it wouldn't be that exciting.

New fantasy baseball heights for these skyscraping pitchers?
These upward-trending, twentysomething, skyscraping hurlers can assist your fantasy baseball squad on a trial basis, but each arm comes with caveats.
RHP Luke Hochevar, Royals - The 6-foot-5 three-time draftee (tops overall in 2006) recorded a 2.94 June ERA with a .174 opponents' clip. He's cutting more grass: Hochevar's combined 39.8 percent minor league grounder rate in '07 became 68.6 percent at Class AAA Omaha in '08 and 62.9 percent there in '09. Tap your mouse here for more »
Francisco Liriano, John Lackey, Mike MacDougal, Joba Chamberlain and more

Welcome to the Happy Hour edition of Rounding the Bases. Each week, Tim Heaney takes you around the majors with his spin on fantasy baseball trends, news highlights and player scouting. He welcomes you to join him as he circles the bags at his admirably slow pace.
Hmmm ... which avian parlance should I choose?
I'll go with the best cinematic equivalent from one of the more underrated sports movie sequels (about 1:24 in).
Hey, at least last night's winged plunkee got off easy.
Out of the box

Washington Nationals impeach Joel Hanrahan
Andrew Johnson, Bill Clinton ... and Joel Hanrahan.
The Nationals have kicked Hanny out of the closer role. It will be a mix of Julian Tavarez and Kip Wells for now until Joe Beimel (hip) comes off the DL. Tap your mouse here for more »
