More bam for Han-Ram? Plus Brandon Webb and Kevin Youkilis
Worried about Hanley Ramirez's power? Seems you're allowed to be, right? His fly-ball and liner rates dropped from '09. His ISO tanked to something around the Florida Marlins' attendance.
Take a look at his Hot off the Wire page, though, for why: injuries. Nagging, persistent injuries. Condemning his ability to stay healthy? Perhaps, because of the mileage already on his body at age 27. He has been a peak player for at least one or two seasons – think the Clinton Portis of the MLB, to a degree. James Shields and Ricky Nolasco: Ain't No Sunshine for my pitching staff
Sing it, Bill Withers. The Sunshine State wasn't kind to me recently. Stormy, indeed.
In the third division of four 2010 Fantasy Sports Writers Association's Industry Insider Leagues, I have flip-flopped between first and second place with SportsJudge.com's Marc Edelman.
This setup uses OBP and SLG instead of batting average and homers. I enjoy the challenge. I dislike often the violent swings in the four ratio categories.

Fantasy Baseball Player Prospecting 2010: Michael Stanton, Florida Marlins

Stanton knocking on the door
Typically, hitting five home runs in two games will give you some press. It only reinforces Michael Stanton's titanic lore.
The 20-year-old outfielder in the Florida Marlins system continued his Spring Training tear and is now feasting on the Double-A Southern League. With his two-day reign of terror, the 6-foot-5, 235-pound behemoth now has a .338-9-20 line in 65 at-bats, along with a .482 on-base percentage and an .800 slugging percentage.

New fantasy baseball heights for these skyscraping pitchers?
These upward-trending, twentysomething, skyscraping hurlers can assist your fantasy baseball squad on a trial basis, but each arm comes with caveats.
RHP Luke Hochevar, Royals - The 6-foot-5 three-time draftee (tops overall in 2006) recorded a 2.94 June ERA with a .174 opponents' clip. He's cutting more grass: Hochevar's combined 39.8 percent minor league grounder rate in '07 became 68.6 percent at Class AAA Omaha in '08 and 62.9 percent there in '09. Tap your mouse here for more »
The Matt Wieters premiere, the Zach Duke redemption and the Ricky Nolasco stretch
Welcome to the Happy Hour edition of Rounding the Bases. Each week, Tim Heaney takes you around the majors with his spin on fantasy baseball trends, news highlights and player scouting. He welcomes you to join him as he circles the bags at his admirably slow pace.
Wunderkind Matt Wieters now has to meet the hype. I'm tempering my hopes for him for this season. If you were able to stash him while accounting for the clogged roster spot, bully for you.
If you tucked him away and are lagging behind, well, good night ... and good luck.
Out of the box
In my "Are they for real?" blog Tuesday, I talked about whether or not some fast starters are anomalies. I left out one name that I have been wavering on: Zach Duke. Tap your mouse here for more »
Rounding the Bases: Velocity, B.J. Ryan … and BU Hockey!

A March Madness diatribe before we hit this week's trot; no, not the roundball - Memphis already sent my bracket to the shredder.

Fantasy Baseball Alert: Matt Lindstrom injury update
The Associated Press reports the Florida Marlins are uncertain if closer Matt Lindstrom (shoulder) will be ready to return for Opening Day. Lindstrom underwent an MRI Monday, March 16, and was told not to throw for seven to 10 days after he was diagnosed with a rotator cuff strain.
We were already a bit concerned about Lindstrom's fantasy ability this season (not enough K's for a 100 mph heater), but this adds a new, more discomforting wrinkle. Tap your mouse here for more »
