Victor Martinez calls changeup for Tim’s fantasy baseball draft
When my K-BAD (KFFL Baseball Analysis Draft) competitors drained the shortstop lot by running through Hanley Ramirez, Troy Tulowitzki, Jose Reyes, Jimmy Rollins and Derek Jeter within the first 34 picks, I needed to zig from the resulting zag.
Wait - zag from the zig? I'm confused.
What was perfectly clear, though, was that I veered from my typical strategy. After my first two picks of Mark Teixeira (more of my thoughts on first sackers coming soon) and David Wright (the shortstop drop-off, lite), I grabbed Victor Martinez. Yes, a catcher. Before Round 8.
All 14 of my loyal readers must be shocked. Aghast. Bewildered. Afraid that the Black Eyed Peas will wreck another classic rock staple.

Value shopping at V-Mart
Luckily, V-Mart is a DH disguised as a C. Grabbing backstop-eligible everyday at-bats of his caliber outweighed reaching for another position at Pick 35. This actually falls in line with my scarcity plan - just in another location.
Lesson: Grab value when value comes to you.
