Michaels will explore the depths of the make-believe baseball world every Tuesday. He'll also explore the depths of your understanding. The Zen Master bends your mind around bases that you didn't realize were there; then he waves you 'round third with a reckoning of how simple these games can be.

Bits and pieces
- It's just a joyous time to be a free-agent reliever.
- Edgar Renteria, on the San Francisco Giants' $1 million contract offer, according to ESPNDeportes.com. "That offer from the Giants was a lack of respect. A total disrespect."
Hmmm. Maybe the Giants feel disrespected, too, Edgar.
Maybe the Giants feel that they should have gotten more than a World Series MVP performance for the $18 million they paid you for two years. Like, maybe, any contribution that would've helped them reach the postseason. Maybe, since you took home an honor which usually does nothing more than trigger an incentive in many players' contracts that pays about a quarter mil or less - which is no more than half of what the Giants agreed to pay you, in addition, just to buy out the final year of your deal - a cool million is just fine.

Yesterday, we sized up the players in the most recent AL moves, including Bobby Jenks, Tsuyoshi Nishioka and Josh Willingham. Today, in doing the same for the NL, we touched on (naturally) Zack Greinke, Jason Bartlett and one of my favorite early sleepers. I'd hate to give it away.

Pretty good fantasy baseball sleeper right there, folks. Thought so as soon that one came about. Kevin Towers' enthusiasm and reasons for the signing support the feeling and bolster the confidence in that choice.
