Speaking of Jimmy Rollins and Derek Jeter

New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter

Never a dull, albeit dull, choice

Jimmy Rollins and Derek Jeter seem to represent the risk cliff at shortstop. For those who own them or will draft them, it's nice to know that they'll rebound. Each is too talented not to put forth a performance better than his respective effort last year - and in the case of the Philadelphia Phillies' man, in 2009 as well.

For the New York Yankees' shortstop, the season before last was a banner year, prior to which some fantasy baseball managers had already written him off. It sounds familiar.

Fantasy baseball players short on patience … for shortstops?

I'm sure that you've noticed how discouraging it is to get a look at the pool of shortstops in MLB universes.

New York Mets SS Jose Reyes

Looks like Reyes is safe

Hanley Ramirez and Troy Tulowitzki don't come off the board within the first five picks of a mixed league draft simply because of their dashing good looks great numbers. Jimmy Rollins and Derek Jeter carry the kind of danger accompanying their possible high-end yield that Jose Reyes does a bit earlier.

The payoff-in-wait kind of dives after this group. New bloodthirsties scoff at the notion that J-Roll and Jete even belong in it. The entire situation is a little ... depressing.

The answer to your Michael Young problem? And Grady Sizemore’s road to recovery

Cleveland Indians OF Grady Sizemore

Little by little ... Sizemore

The Michael Young saga doesn't seem to be headed for a simple resolution, although it could easily have one. If you have subscriber access to The Dallas Morning News, you can gain a few perspectives. If you don't, stop by anyway - the free stuff reads like a tabloid. There's no questioning where a writer from Baseball Time in Arlington stands.

And no club is opening its arms. The Yanks can't. The Halos can't, and the Blue can't. The Rox can't. The Cards can't. Etc., etc., etc. (Naturally, the price seems to have gone up.)

Who's really at fault? How did it get this far? Can they patch things up?

Concussed Canadians Justin Morneau, Jason Bay headed in opposite directions

Minnesota Twins 1B Justin Morneau

No more Morneau, please, for now

The last few days have been uncomfortable for Minnesota Twins fans. Their chattering teeth aren't a result of temperatures that dipped below 0 degrees; the weather hasn't helped, but Midwesterners are tough. What's really making them nervous: The latest news on their star slugger, Justin Morneau, was supposed to be encouraging ... but it really wasn't.

The empathy will trickle down to fantasy baseball players and mock drafts and columns any day now. Or, at any rate, it should. It's interesting that the optimism surrounding Morneau's fantasy outlook not long ago didn't seem suitable for Jason Bay. In fact, the latter is a considerably more attractive fantasy choice.
