The FSTA and the fantasy baseball Mudville 9 dot puzzle

Fit to be 2?
The Fantasy Sports Trade Association's baseball expert league received a bit of a makeover this year, thanks no doubt in large part to the involvement of Sirius/XM Fantasy Sports Radio. The fledgling channel broadcasted the entire draft live from the FSTA's winter conference, held at the Mirage in Las Vegas, this past Monday.
But this is no illusion. Thirteen fantasy stalwarts filled their 29-man rosters for a league - not a mock draft - on Jan. 24, more than two months before MLB's 2011 season begins. League host CBSSports.com has the results. Sirius/XM FSR is re-airing the event daily.
And one of the industry's best players caused a bit of commotion.

Fantasy baseball players on other side of Neftali Feliz’s trapdoor, and other Texas Rangers tips

The second shooter
The Texas Rangers have added first Adrian Beltre and now Mike Napoli to the roster in an offseason in which pitching, at least of the starting variety, was a greater need.
Ron Washington says that Michael Young is a regular. "Michael's going to get his at-bats. He's still going to be my primary DH. He's going to get some chances to play first. He's going to get some chances to play second. He's going to get some chances to play third." (It's also interesting, although not necessarily telling, that Texas' official site lists Young as Elvis Andrus' backup.)

Toronto Blue Jays find taker for Vernon Wells and make fantasy baseball mess
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have agreed to take on at least some portion of the four years and $86 million remaining on the contract extension that the Toronto Blue Jays handed Vernon Wells about five years ago.
The Halos hoped to grab some attention (and add some offense) in the heavy free agency period, so they'll sacrifice Mike Napoli and Juan Rivera to accomplish something similar.

The wacky world of fantasy baseball relief pitchers

Classiest of closers?
A couple of weeks ago, I was cruising the closer ranks, when I wondered:
What if the upper crust of this calamitous cluster of fantasy baseball players took a different shape? What if the bullpen plates shifted, causing a disruption in Earth's surface that resulted in something like the formations at breathtaking Iao Valley?
