Padres victorious in deal with Cincy, Volquez still worth rostering

Volquez's wild ride over?
I wasn't at all shocked that the San Diego Padres shipped Mat Latos to the Cincinnati Reds over the weekend. However, I was really surprised at what they received in return.
Edinson Volquez has new hairdo, but really needs better focus in first inning
In case you didn't notice, Edinson Volquez is back starting with the Cincinnati Reds, and he didn't give up any runs or walks in the first inning versus the Chicago Cubs Tuesday. As a Volquez owner, I was pretty shocked about that, and bummed I didn't have the guts to play him.
The stretch run: September additions
With major league rosters expanding on Wednesday, the rush of September callups has begun. This also means that, for those of you still gunning for that fantasy baseball championship in '10, the fantasy player pool is expanding.
A look back at Opening Day
You know that feeling you get when you're a little toddler and you visit Disneyland for the first time? Or when you enter a giant candy store? Well, that is the feeling I annually have the pleasure of experiencing on baseball's Opening Day.
Every fan has a reason to be optimistic. Their team is 0-0 and has a chance to win the division. Fantasy owners can all talk smack that their team will run away with the crown, or that they own one of this year's Rookie of the Year. It is truly a joyous day, and should officially be considered a national holiday, in my opinion.
Cincinnati Reds place 3B Scott Rolen on DL

MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reports the Cincinnati Reds placed third baseman Scott Rolen (concussion) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Aug. 11, with a concussion.
In a related move, the Reds activated outfielder Chris Dickerson (shoulder) from the disabled list.
Rolen is having a solid season, with a .313 batting average, nine home runs and 45 RBIs in 352 at-bats with the Toronto Blue Jays and Reds. Tap your mouse here for more »

Martinez was not acquired for his defense. The Sox figure to use him at first base and designated hitter and perhaps let him share catching duties with Jason Varitek. Tap your mouse here for more »
