Just say no to TO!

To me, this should go without saying, but every time I believe that I field a question asking why I didn't address said topic. Today's edition: Don't draft Terrell Owens, regardless of what his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, says.

I hate to sound so cynical - well, actually I don't at all - but people always want to buck the trend and go against the odds. I'm not sure if that is for a potential ego boost if they luck out in the end, but this time the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

Terrell Owens

TO tore his anterior cruciate ligament apparently a few months back and could be ready for the early portion of the season, but the 37-year-old receiver will have to prove he can plant a foot and cut effectively before any team will consider signing him. Further complicating the matter is his diva personality, as he may not be willing to accept veteran minimum. Owens likely has to learn a new offense without full-speed, on-field reps and will need to build chemistry with his teammates on the fly.

He has always kept himself in great shape, but Owens is still 37 years old and is coming off a major injury. He underwent surgery to repair meniscus damage in late 2010, although it's very possible TO had his ACL reconstructed at that time. Any team that signs him could place Owens on the Physically Unable to Perform list to begin the year.

Someone, inevitably, will draft Owens, but you are far better off spending a pick on a younger, healthier flier with some upside. While there isn't a player I wouldn't ever draft at the right price, I think Owens doesn't warrant consideration with any pick in a standard 16-round draft.
