Is a Carolina Panthers-Cam Newton marriage on the horizon?

The Carolina Panthers plan to bring in Auburn quarterback Cam Newton for a closer look and could select him with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft this April.

I'm not here to indict Newton as a bust, although he has a fairly high bust factor about him. My thought is that with a deep draft-eligible quarterback class in 2012, Carolina's front office best be sure of Newton. After all, it's unlikely that the Panthers will be a playoff-caliber squad in '11. Tap your mouse here for more »

Carolina Panthers: Is Luck on their side?

What will the Carolina Panthers do with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft?

Most observers point to Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, but he hasn't indicated if he will declare yet. If Luck stays in school, where should the Panthers turn? Tap your mouse here for more »

QB changes, an untraded WR and more

It's hard to believe Week 3 is upon us already! Pretty soon fantasy owners will be competing in championship games. A quick spin around the league poses more questions than the Internet has space to answer, but I'll give it a whirl. Brevity has never been my strong suit. You can also say the same about my intros.... Tap your mouse here for more »

NFL Draft Grapevine: NFC winners and losers

Now that we've had a few days to digest the offerings of the 2010 NFL Draft, it is time for our annual draft winners and losers piece. In what is always a controversial analysis, everyone has fun grading the draft or tearing apart the next guy's evaluation. Truth be told, it's unfair to grade anything before a few seasons of football have been played, but who has time for that?

This year there were a lot more winners than losers. Most teams did really well, in general, and only seven come in as having below-average drafts in our eyes.

With the teams listed in no particular order, let's get at it! Tap your mouse here for more »

NFL Draft Grapevine: McNabb's effects on the draft

Being a mock drafter is a tough job, I tell ya. You need thick skin, because, after all, you're always wrong, and you never get credit when you're right.

No one remembers if you correctly picked the first 10 picks, and no matter how accurate you are, you are considered a fool by most. It comes with the territory.

The Donovan McNabb trade caused a ripple effect in our last mock draft, so it was time to update that puppy before we were berated any further.

With Monday's update came a lot of changes, so let's break them down. Tap your mouse here for more »

Draft Grapevine: Top three picks

No free agency transaction so far has mattered as much to the landscape of the 2010 NFL Draft as the Detroit Lions trading for Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Corey Williams. I briefly touched on this in a recent blog, but today I will expand those thoughts into analysis on the top three picks in the draft.

1) St. Louis Rams

Biggest need: quarterback

The Rams have many, many holes to fill, naturally, but quarterback is their biggest need. St. Louis can go several routes, so this is far from etched into stone. Tap your mouse here for more »
