Wild Card Weekend predictions

It is the season of NFL playoff brackets, and I have released mine on KFFL.com. You can also find the brackets for fellow KFFL editors and a group bracket.

I struggled with a few selections for this weekend's games, but I ultimately decided on my playoff predictions despite much angst. Tap your mouse here for more »

Fantasy football running back targets and stashes

We are getting awfully close to that time of the year (no, not the holidays), as fantasy football regular seasons are winding down and the playoff landscape is being finalized over the remaining few weeks of play.

This had me thinking about which players I wanted to stash and target in some of my leagues. Stash players: I'm referring to those hardly known, seldom used options that a make you gasp upon realizing your opponent had the fortitude to put the player into their lineup against you.

Targeted players include midrange options that you can probably land on the cheap, if your league allows trading. Today's focus is the running back position. Tap your mouse here for more »

Head-to-head rant, Carson Palmer and an 18-game sked

I hope my readers enjoyed more success in Week 3 than I did. It was a rough weekend in most of my leagues. I learned from my lineup mistakes, and a few were unavoidable ... sometimes the matchups don't play out as expected, which is just part of the game.

On a tangent: I am sick of head-to-head leagues. Total points formats showcase the talents of owners far more than H2H setups do, because you have removed the potential for a lucky win or a fluky loss. The cumulative standings in total points leagues are reflective of savvy owners making the right lineup choices, just as much as they are of the opposite. Sure, luck has a factor in fantasy football - no question about it - but I hate to give it a helping hand. Tap your mouse here for more »

I love me some … TO?

cory-j-bonini-misanthropic-musing

The pressure is building, and my fan base is becoming agitated. While I have found plenty of success in personal leagues, it has been a full year since I have captured an industry experts league title.

As I neared my office this morning, it became evident that my followers have had enough. A billboard had been erected alongside the freeway that delivered a clear message: Mr. Bonini, please deliver us a championship in '09!

It was signed "50,000-plus fans from MessageToCory.com." Tap your mouse here for more »

Five early Week 8 sleepers

Here is an early sample of Week 8 sleepers. You should check back Tuesday and Wednesday for our complete analysis.

Derek Anderson, quarterback, Cleveland Browns: Desperate times call for desperate measures, and six-team bye weeks will do that to fantasy owners. Anderson is barely playable but has a fairly decent matchup against a Chicago Bears' defense that gave up five touchdown passes last week to Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer. Caveat emptor! Tap your mouse here for more »

Will history repeat itself in Week 7?

cory-j-bonini-misanthropic-musing

The following players have positive history versus their Week 7 opponents. I will help you understand if these players can live up to the expectations of their past successes.

Quarterbacks

Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs

Laurels: Averaged 331 passing yards and two touchdowns per game last year

Fantasy tip: I don't think Rivers will have any trouble putting up yardage, but the Chiefs' defense isn't AS BAD as some people think. Rivers threw three interceptions to four touchdown passes in those two games, and prior to the '08 season Rivers' numbers against KC weren't exactly sparkling (averaged 184 yards, 0.5 TDs, 1.5 interceptions in 2007). Expect similar numbers to last year's averages, but don't be surprised if he is pressured into a few mistakes. Tap your mouse here for more »

Game 2 Recap of Xbox/FantasySportsVentures.com Madden 10 Tournament

MyFantasyLeague.com's Brandon Coughlin and I entered a grueling defensive battle in my second game of the Xbox/EXperts Madden 10 challenge. He chose the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and I ran with the Atlanta Falcons for the first time ever.

I kicked off to the Bucs to open the game, and Brandon drove down the field to boot through a three-pointer for the game's initial score. I responded with a field goal early in the second quarter to bring it even. Tap your mouse here for more »

Who's the No. 1 pick in fantasy football drafts?

cory-j-bonini-misanthropic-musing
Even with increasing committee situations, running backs are usually the No. 1 overall pick in fantasy football drafts. Four backs deserve consideration in 2009.  Tap your mouse here for more »
