Moon added Rivera felt he needed to talk with Newton more to understand him as a person. "The Panthers had a great meeting with him over dinner that night," Moon said.

- Indiana WR Tandon Doss measured 6-foot-2 1/8, 201 pounds at his Pro Day Wednesday, April 6, reports NFL.com's Gil Brandt. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.67 seconds and 4.62 seconds, the short shuttle in 4.21 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.04 seconds. He measured a 32 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-8 broad jump. Doss was not able to participate at the NFL Scouting Combine because of hip surgery and is still not 100 percent healthy.
- Ohio State DL Cameron Heyward was invited to attend the 2011 NFL Draft but has decided to decline the invitation and will spend that time with family and friends, according to Aaron Wilson, of NationalFootballPost.com.
- Kansas State RB Daniel Thomas ran the 40-yard dash between 4.50 seconds and 4.58 seconds at his Pro Day Tuesday, April 5, a source told Aaron Wilson, of NationalFootballPost.com. Thomas missed his initial Pro Day because of a hamstring injury.
- University of Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick said most teams have told him they would not try to alter his throwing motion if they drafted him, reports Matt Barrows, of the Sacramento Bee. Kaepernick has one of the longest wingspans among the quarterback prospects, which makes his motion more drawn out. He has been working on trying to shorten his throws.
- Virginia Tech RB Ryan Williams has accepted an invitation to attend the NFL Draft, according to Aaron Wilson, of NationalFootballPost.com.
