When did you start playing fantasy sports?
I believe I started playing in either 1995 or 1996. It has been a while.
How did you get your start in the industry?
I'm a walking case of nepotism. While working for my father's business after taking a break from attending a local university, I received a call from my brother, Ryan, and his business partner, William Del Pilar, in December of 2002, asking if I'd like to come to California to be part of KFFL. I worked a few months from home in Michigan before making the leap in April of 2003 to become a full-time resident on the left coast.
Best fantasy sports memory?
In 2002, I drafted an all-star team with the likes of Marvin Harrison (143 receptions), Rich Gannon (MVP year), Priest Holmes (24 total TDs) and Charlie Garner (1,903 total yards, 11 TDs, 91 receptions), to name a few. Needless to say, I ran away with the league. What makes it most enjoyable is that I had greatly scaled back my interest in fantasy football prior to that season. I guess it's true that sometimes genius lies in simplicity (and KFFL cheat sheets).
What is the one thing you would tell a rookie fantasy sports player?
Don't be a homer. Just because you love a certain team doesn't mean your fantasy roster should be littered with players from said franchise. Oh, and know your scoring system ... it really does matter! (That was two things, I know.)
What would people be surprised to know about you?
I love to write fiction far more than I do fantasy content.
Hobbies/interests:
Cooking, playing sports (football, basketball, golf), poker, writing fiction, brewing homemade beer, fishing
