Fantasy football busts: WR - Week 10

by Tim Heaney and Bryce McRae on November 11, 2010 @ 15:22:00 PDT

In this article KFFL breaks down fantasy football busts of the week. Some high-level players will be included, because you need to know when is time to sit a player even though it may not seem appropriate. Primarily, however, we will address the midrange to low-end fantasy options that you rack your brain over each week. Read on to learn which of these players that you wouldn't want in your lineup.

Note: All statistical averages are from Week 6 to Week 9, unless otherwise specified.

Fantasy football busts: Wide receivers

Mike Williams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Carolina Panthers

Fantasy value: No. 2 or No. 3

  • Williams has hit the end zone in his last two outings, has at least four catches in all but one game this year, and has topped 80 receiving yards in four of his last five contests. He's clearly Josh Freeman's No. 1 receiving target.
  • The Panthers have allowed 13.00 catches, 116.7 yards and 0.33 touchdown grabs per game to the passing attacks of the St. Louis Rams and San Francisco 49ers. They were damaged by the New Orleans Saints last week, but the Bucs' aerial game compares more to the first two teams.

Chad Ochocinco, Cincinnati Bengals at Indianapolis Colts

Chad Ochocinco, WR, Cincinnati Bengals
Ocho oh no!

Fantasy value: Midrange No. 3

  • Ocho (ankle) is dinged but should play in Week 10. He boiled over on his team in Week 9 during another disappointing performance (one 15-yard catch). He's still heavily involved in the offense but still faces frequent double teams. Terrell Owens is reaping the benefits of Ocho's attention.
  • Though Ocho might be force-fed the ball as a result of his tirade, the Colts don't offer a chance for Chad to improve. They've allowed just 12.00 catches, 150.3 yards and 0.67 touchdowns per game in their last three games, containing the tosses from the Washington Redskins' Donovan McNabb, the Houston Texans' Matt Schaub and the Philadelphia Eagles' Michael Vick.

NEW - Eddie Royal, Denver Broncos vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Fantasy value: Flex or bench

  • Royal hasn't done a lot lately and that shouldn't change this week. Though his effectiveness was hindered by groin issues, he is averaging three receptions for 32.33 receiving yards per game and hasn't scored a touchdown in the last month. Of course, he was dealing with a groin injury during that time, which might have hindered his effectiveness.
  • Kansas City is yielding just 9.75 receptions (eighth fewest) for 135.8 yards (ninth fewest) per game to this position. They've allowed only 0.75 receiving touchdowns (tied for 12th) per game to opposing wideouts, too.
