Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market - AL

Fantasy baseball waivers and the acquisition of fantasy baseball free agents can make or break your season. Your fantasy baseball cheat sheets won't help you after spring training. If your team remains the same after opening day, you will have trouble competing in your rotisserie baseball league.

Do you need to replace your fantasy baseball busts? Which fantasy baseball players can you ignore? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market gives you fantasy baseball tips and insight to sort through the masses quickly.

Key

Acquire Add player (in most circumstances)
Watch Track player, add if trend continues
Pass Do not add player (in most circumstances)

Outfielders

Justin Maxwell, OF, Washington Nationals

Maxwell was called up yesterday and started in right field. He walked twice and struck out once in three at-bats. This followed a change to a simplified approach during his short stint at Triple-A to start the season. PT is an issue, and he may be on borrowed time because of injuries, but he has SB potential. There's decent pop in his bat, too (13 homers in 384 at-bats at Triple-A last year).

Shallow mixed: Pass

Deep mixed: Pass

NL-only: Watch

Pitchers

Juan Gutierrez, RP, Arizona Diamondbacks

Closer Chad Qualls gave up two runs on three hits and two walks while blowing a save yesterday, his second blown save in a row. If the D-backs do shuffle their bullpen, even temporarily, Gutierrez would be next in line. He saved eight straight to end '09 when Qualls was hurt and hasn't allowed a run in four innings this year. Speculate if you have the room; he can help your ratios, too.

Shallow mixed: Watch

Deep mixed: Acquire

NL-only: Acquire

Wade LeBlanc, SP, San Diego Padres

The Padres might need more than a spot starter if Chris Young (shoulder) spends longer on the DL than originally expected. CY could require at least one rehab start before returning.

This could tip the scales in favor of LeBlanc; he and long reliever Tim Stauffer are the options for a Sunday start. LeBlanc has pretty good control, but he's fairly green and needs something more if he's ever to help in mixed leagues. Also, there is still the risk San Diego goes with Stauffer on Sunday.

Shallow mixed: Pass

Deep mixed: Pass

NL-only: Watch
