Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market - NL

Fantasy baseball waivers and the acquisition of fantasy baseball free agents can make or break your season. Your fantasy baseball cheat sheets won't help you after spring training. If your team remains the same after opening day, you will have trouble competing in your rotisserie baseball league.

Do you need to replace your fantasy baseball busts? Which fantasy baseball players can you ignore? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market gives you fantasy baseball tips and insight to sort through the masses quickly.

Pass Do not add player (in most circumstances)

Corner infielders

Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland Athletics

Tampa Bay Rays IF Reid Brignac
Brignac's platoon a deep-league boon

The A's designated Jack Cust for assignment, opening up the primary DH work for Chavez. The knock on the vet the last few years has been his health. Reports on his back and shoulder have been positive, and keeping him off the field and solely at the dish should help preserve him. He popped 15 dingers in 379 at-bats in '07. Remember: 20-homer bats don't hit mono-league waiver wires often.

Middle infielders

Reid Brignac, 2B/SS, Tampa Bay Rays

Sean Rodriguez received a ton of spring hype, but the lefty-hitting Brignac, a post-hype prospect, stands to receive more playing time as part of a second base platoon with Ben Zobrist. The Rays were impressed with Brignac's improved plate approach. Fantasy owners will have a set schedule of when to use Brignac, who should approach 15 homers given a full-time workload.

Outfielders

Michael Brantley, OF, Cleveland Indians

The Tribe says Brantley's playing time isn't dependent on Russell Branyan's (back) DL stint. Brantley's mature batting eye for a 23-year-old should nurture his stolen base opportunities. He might hit leadoff at some point, too.

Pitchers

Jon Rauch, RP, Minnesota Twins

Rauch will start the season as closer. What are you waiting for?

David Hernandez, SP, Baltimore Orioles

Control and homer issues hindered the growth of the Orioles' No. 5 starter. His 20-to-3 K/BB this spring, however, emphasizes the dominance he has shown in his professional career. A correction or temperance of the long ball bugaboo, combined with continued improvement in BB/9, could bring a breakout.
