Transactions reshape the fantasy baseball landscape every day. Each week, KFFL.com examines every notable transaction in Major League Baseball. Who returned from the disabled list? Who was promoted to the majors? Find out in this edition of Transaction Analysis.

Transactions: Activated from disabled list

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal (back) | Wednesday, Sept. 24

  • Furcal has four games left to earn a spot on the Dodgers' postseason roster after spending the better part of the season on the DL
  • He was hitting .366 with 34 runs in 134 at-bats before his injury, but Furcal will likely be rusty following such a long layoff
  • The team views him as a switch-hitting bench player and backup infielder, negating any value in fantasy leagues

New York Mets pitcher John Maine (shoulder) | Wednesday, Sept. 24

  • Maine is expected to be given a shot to prove he can be a reliable bullpen addition for the Mets' possible postseason run
  • Pitching out of the bullpen eliminates any value the 27-year-old righty had before the injury

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Yovani Gallardo (knee) | Tuesday, Sept. 23

  • Out since May 1 after suffering a torn ACL, Gallardo was originally viewed as a possible bullpen contributor for the final week, but he is instead scheduled to start Thursday, Sept. 25
  • Gallardo was 2-1 with a 2.87 ERA in three starts against the Pittsburgh Pirates last season and could be added for a spot start, though it seems unlikely he'd work deep into a game after such a long absence

Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Jeff Kent (knee) | Sunday, Sept. 21

  • The veteran infielder is expected to function solely as a pinch hitter the rest of the way
  • Look elsewhere in all leagues if you need a late-season boost

Transactions: Placed on disabled list

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Brad Penny (shoulder) | Wednesday, Sept. 24

  • Penny's season is over after four to six weeks of rest were recommended for the struggling hurler
  • Drop in all fantasy leagues if you were still holding him

Oakland Athletics second baseman Mark Ellis (shoulder) | Sunday, Sept. 21

  • This move officially ends Ellis' season after he underwent surgery on his shoulder Friday, Sept. 19

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Daniel Cabrera (elbow) | Friday, Sept. 19

  • Cabrera's season is over, and the tall righty plans to have his elbow examined early next week
  • Drop him in all leagues
