Corner infielders

Edwin Encarnacion, Oakland Athletics (claimed off waivers)

He regained his power stroke and might be kicking Kevin Kouzmanoff out of Oakland's hot corner job, but the streaky Encarnacion moves to a homer-preventing ball park and a less potent lineup. Maybe another fresh start will help him, but he's a gamble.

Outfielders

New Oakland Athletics 3B Edwin Encarnacion
Encarnacion: another second chance

David DeJesus, Oakland Athletics (traded from Kansas City Royals)

DeJesus does a little bit in every standard offensive category, but not enough to stand out. The park won't help his borderline power, but this offense might give him more steal attempts. No significant value change, though. As you were.

Pitchers

Vin Mazzaro, Kansas City Royals (traded from Oakland Athletics)

While it isn't a bandbox, Mazzaro's new park allowed slightly more homers last year than his old one. It appears he'll be locked into a rotation spot, though, and he flashed some abilities despite not having much dominance. Let him be for now, but he's one to watch.

Anthony Reyes (re-signed to minor league deal)

Reyes was once a highly heralded prospect; he has been working his way back from Tommy John surgery and still has some talent. Watch his progress; he might earn consideration for Cleveland's rotation.

Justin Marks, Kansas City Royals (traded from Oakland Athletics)

The Royals added another prospect in shipping out David DeJesus. Marks, who'll be 23 in January, showed some strikeout potential in A ball in 2010. He might be someone to keep an eye on within the next few years.

Taylor Buchholz, Boston Red Sox (claimed off waivers)

Buchholz posted a 3.75 ERA in nine appearances last season, his first work since missing the '09 season following Tommy John surgery. He had a valuable '08 fantasy campaign as a ratio-aiding reliever; if he earns a roster spot, he could offer the same this year.

Andrew Miller, Boston Red Sox (traded from Florida Marlins)

There's some K ability here. There's also a ton of walks. Maybe he catches on in the 'pen. You can watch from afar.
