Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market - AL

Fantasy baseball waivers and the acquisition of fantasy baseball free agents can make or break your season. Your fantasy baseball cheat sheets won't help you after spring training. If your team remains the same after opening day, you will have trouble competing in your rotisserie baseball league.

Do you need to replace your fantasy baseball busts? Which fantasy baseball players can you ignore? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market gives you fantasy baseball tips and insight to sort through the masses quickly.

Key

Acquire Add player (in most circumstances)
Consider Add for speculation or because of need
Watch Track player, consider if trend continues
Pass Do not add player (in most circumstances)

Pitchers

Tim Stauffer, P, San Diego Padres

The Friars, in a bit of a tailspin, will turn to Stauffer on Saturday versus the San Francisco Giants. The right-hander is no lock to remain in the rotation, but considering the way Kevin Correia has disappointed, Stauffer certainly has a chance to do so.

Stauffer has started twice this season. Once, on May 9, at the Houston Astros (five innings, no runs allowed - an even less impressive accomplishment then), and again on Monday, versus the struggling Los Angeles Dodgers (four frames, one run allowed). In his career, as a starter, he's 8-14 with a 4.97 ERA, a 1.49 WHIP and a 5.6 K/9.

Stauffer has been extremely impressive out of the bullpen (1.87 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 7.9 K/9) this year. It appears that his numbers are due for sizable correction the more he starts. Of note: Stauffer has notably improved his BB/9 and grounder rate. He has also been - duh - quite effective at PETCO Park, particularly last season. This is not a lame-duck pitcher, just one with limited upside. A split-start candidate - just beware that he could be lined up for two or three road outings the rest of the way.

Shallow mixed: Pass

Deep mixed: Watch
