Fantasy baseball closer depth charts: AL | NL

In fantasy baseball, the closer position remains volatile. Rarely does every closer hang on to the job for an entire season - injuries, poor performance and managerial decisions can cloud a team's bullpen picture.

Should you be concerned about a struggling stopper? Which relievers are climbing the depth chart? Are any injuries popping up? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Closer Hot Seat keeps you informed when you're looking for saves.

Mound meetings

    Seattle Mariners RP David Aardsma
    Aggressiveness helping Aardsma
  • The Seattle Mariners' David Aardsma tip-toed around a one-out double to retire the heart of the St. Louis Cardinals order in his Wednesday closure. Thirteen of his 16 pitches in his last two outings have been strikes.
Keeping up that aggressiveness will help turn around his recent downswing. His walk rate is actually down this year, and his strand rate has ample room for improvement. Aardsma's flyball vice, however, calls for Brandon League speculation if you must target this situation.
  • Maybe Alfredo Simon needs a few more outings until he can be ready to close for the Baltimore Orioles. In non-save duty Wednesday, he allowed one run on two hits and a walk in a frame of work. He's still worth retaining everywhere based on the O's plan of bringing him back into saves duty.
Mike Gonzalez (shoulder) was slated for a Wednesday simulated game and could start rehabbing soon. Expect David Hernandez to continue handling at least a split of save chances if Simon can't get right. Of course, betting on a healthy Gonzalez is becoming a sucker's play, so it may be a longer stint for the other two relievers.
