Fantasy football busts: QB | RB | WR | TE | PK | DT

In this article KFFL breaks down fantasy football busts of the week. Some high-level players will be included, because you need to know when is time to sit a player even though it may not seem appropriate. Primarily, however, we will address the midrange to low-end fantasy options that you rack your brain over each week. Read on to learn which of these players that you wouldn't want in your lineup.

Note: All statistics are from Week 3 to Week 6, unless otherwise noted.

Fantasy football busts: Tight ends

Vernon Davis, San Francisco 49ers at Houston Texans

Fantasy value: Midrange No. 1

    Donovan McNabb, QB, Philadelphia Eagles
    Houston could shut down Davis
  • Davis remains the No. 1 passcatcher in the 49ers' passing game, but he may see his looks go down a little with first-round pick Michael Crabtree ending his holding and entering the starting lineup.
  • The Texans may struggle in other areas of their defense, but stopping tight ends is their forte. In the past month, this group has given up a paltry 2.75 receptions for 26.8 yards per game. Oh, and they have held the position out of the end zone in this time, too.

NEW - Jeremy Shockey, New Orleans Saints at Miami Dolphins

Fantasy value: Low-end No. 1 or flex

  • Shockey has four receptions in all but one game this year (six in the other), and he is coming off his best fantasy week since Week 1. He caught four passes for 37 yards and one score against the New York Giants last weekend.
  • His reception consistency could be in jeopardy this weekend; the Dolphins are allowing only 1.67 receptions per game to opposing tight ends over the last month. They also haven't allowed a touchdown to the position in that time.
  • Miami has been giving a lot of yardage to opposing wideouts (169.0 yards per game); the Saints' receivers might be the better options through the air for quarterback Drew Brees this weekend.
