Fantasy football busts: QB | RB | WR | TE | PK | DT

In this article KFFL breaks down fantasy football busts of the week. Some high-level players will be included, because you need to know when is time to sit a player even though it may not seem appropriate. Primarily, however, we will address the midrange to low-end fantasy options that you rack your brain over each week. Read on to learn which of these players that you wouldn't want in your lineup.

Note: All statistical averages are from Week 5 to Week 8, unless otherwise specified.

Fantasy football busts: Quarterbacks

Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles vs. Indianapolis Colts

Fantasy value: Midrange No. 1

  • Matt Schaub, QB, Houston Texans
Indy D quick enough for Vick
Vick (rib) hasn't played since Week 4. In his two full-time games, Vick threw for 575 yards and five touchdowns while tacking on another 67 and one touchdown on the ground.
  • Opposing signal callers are averaging only 201.0 passing yards and 0.67 passing touchdowns per game against Indy. Sure, they've faced the Kansas City Chiefs' Matt Cassel and the Washington Redskins' Donovan McNabb in the last month, which isn't a tough matchup, but they're coming off a week when they held the Houston Texans' Matt Schaub to 201 yards and one score.
  • Indy has a speedy defense that could help them contain Vick, who is coming off a four-week absence and could be rusty. He might be without one of his favorite targets, DeSean Jackson (concussion), too. Plus, the Colts are much weaker against the run, so Philly might tote it more than usual.
  • Also keep in mind Vick's impressive early-season numbers came against two weaker defenses in the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears at Buffalo Bills

Fantasy value: Bench

  • Cutler has thrown for only 613 yards over his last three games, though one of them was shortened by injury. He has just two touchdown passes since Week 2.
  • Buffalo isn't a horrible matchup for Cutler; it's just not good enough to warrant starting him this week. The Bills surrender only 193.3 passing yards per game to this position. Quarterbacks are throwing an average of 2.33 touchdown passes against them per game, though. Also, given Buffalo's shoddy run D, this might be a week where we see more of Matt Forte and Chester Taylor.
  • The Bills will also be welcoming back cornerback Terrence McGee (back), who has missed their last three games.

I hope Vick isn't a bust. I am 1-7, I traded for him the day before he got injured. I have no chance at the playoffs, but I hope I can put up respectable numbers and for that I need him to perform this week.
