In this article KFFL breaks down fantasy football busts of the week. Some high-level players will be included, because you need to know when is time to sit a player even though it may not seem appropriate. Primarily, however, we will address the midrange to low-end fantasy options that you rack your brain over each week. Read on to learn which of these players that you wouldn't want in your lineup.

Note: All statistical averages are from Week 1 to Week 2, unless otherwise specified.

Fantasy football busts: Defensive teams

New Orleans Saints vs. Atlanta Falcons

Fantasy value: No. 1 or bench

  • Through the first two weeks, Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan has been sacked only three times and thrown just one pick. He has been fairly well-protected during his entire career with just 19 sacks taken in 14 games last year and 17 in 16 the year before.
  • Atlanta found the right recipe for success last week with a good balance of running and passing plays. Watch for them to keep it on the ground, especially with Michael Turner (groin) expected to play, against the Saints' high-powered offense. Fewer passing plays should equal fewer chances for sacks and interceptions.
  • New Orleans has generated just one sack all season and will have one less day to recover this week following their game on Monday night. They also haven't done particularly well against the Falcons over the last two years, in terms of fantasy points. They picked off Ryan three times and sacked him another three in their matchup last year, but two years ago, they managed just one interception and no sacks in two games. Sure, that was pre-Gregg Williams, but Chris Redman was only picked off once and sacked once in the two teams' other '09 matchup. Atlanta has also scored at least 20 points in each of their matchups over the last two years.
