If you are serious about winning your fantasy league football championship, stay on top of your fantasy football team throughout the year.

Each week during the NFL fantasy football season, KFFL brings you its Fantasy Football Waiver Wire, which breaks down players to pick up. Be aggressive when picking up fantasy football free agents. Even if you do not need a player, you can tuck him away for depth or block others from adding him to their fantasy football team.

The following fantasy football pickups are for those who need injury or bye week replacements. They are not players you immediately acquire - unless your team is in dire straights. Some have, however, shown some life and should be followed in case they materialize as options beyond their temporary use.

Detroit Lions (71 percent)

Things are turning around for Detroit. They earned their first road win in 26 games last week. They knocked off the Green Bay Packers 7-3 in Week 13. Up this week is the Miami Dolphins.

Detroit is averaging 3.00 sacks per game over the last month. They're not picking off many passes, just 0.50 per game in that time, but Miami quarterback Chad Henne could help that. He has thrown 16 interceptions in 13 games this year.

The Lions should be able to put plenty of pressure with their line this week and could easily force Henne into a few picks. Play them if you aren't enamored with your No. 1 defense.

Carolina Panthers (92 percent)

Yup, Carolina's defense is a decent matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger hasn't been turning the ball over. However, he has been sacked at least three times per game in each of his last four games.

Not to mention Carolina's defense has been playing better of late and have been one of the better pass defenses for most of the year. They've been the 10th best fantasy defense over the last month. They're averaging 2.75 sacks per game, tied for seventh most, in that time. The combination of that and Big Ben's penchant for taking sacks makes them a play if you've been taking the matchups at this spot.
