Fantasy Football Sleepers: PK - Week 3 (video)

by Tim Heaney on September 19, 2012 @ 15:19:24 PDT

In this article KFFL breaks down the fantasy football sleepers of the week. We will avoid marquee names because players of that caliber are rarely benched, regardless of their matchup. Instead, we will focus on the players that make your fantasy lineup decisions stressful each week. Read on to learn which midrange to low-end players you wouldn't necessarily consider that you need to get into your lineup.

Note: All statistics are from Weeks 1 and 2, unless otherwise stated.

Fantasy football sleepers: Place kickers

Adam Vinatieri, Indianapolis Colts vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Alex Henery, PK, Philadelphia Eagles
Soaring through the uprights

Fantasy value: Low-end No. 1

  • Vinatieri showed vintage form in Week 2 with a 3-for-3 field goal day (including a 53-yarder) and two touchdown cappers. The Colts' offense can find its stride against the right opponent, and Jacksonville presents an opportunity for Indy to move the ball with relative ease.
  • In games against the Minnesota Vikings and Houston Texans, the Jags have allowed kickers to line up for an average of 3.0 three-point tries and 2.50 extra-point spots per contest.

Alex Henery, Philadelphia Eagles at Arizona Cardinals

Fantasy value: No. 1 or bench

  • Arizona's defense might be one of the rising units in the NFL, but their "bend but don't break" style has allowed enemy boots to line up for 4.50 FGAs and 0.50 XPAs per game. Stephen Gostkowski's last-second miss meant Arizona's 11.0 fantasy points allowed per contest could be higher.
  • Henery has made two of three field goal tries so far but made all five of his touchdown punctuations. Philly's offense should have little trouble moving downfield, even if Jeremy Maclin (hip) is hindered or has to sit out. Heck, if he sits out, that could leave more dead trips inside the 20.
