Even if you do not need a player, you can tuck him away for depth or block others from adding him to their fantasy football team.

Fantasy football free agents: Look to acquire

The following players will have greater significance in deep fantasy football leagues. In shallow fantasy football leagues, they are not as high of a priority but should be considered based on your fantasy football team's needs.

Arizona Cardinals (49 percent)

Already one of the best run-stuffing units in the league, 'Zona put pressure on the New York Giants this past week. They're also averaging 2.67 sacks per contest in the last four games, during which they're also a top-10 team in registering picks. Their next four opponents: the Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks and St. Louis Rams; all but the Bears have allowed multiple sacks per game since Week 3, and Jay Cutler-led Chicago has been prone to turnovers.

Atlanta Falcons (65 percent)

For those seeking favorable defensive matchups, let's look ahead. The Falcons haven't set the world on fire in the last few weeks, with just 2.33 sacks and 2.00 takeaways per game in their last three contests. They've taken a huge hit to their secondary with the season-ending injury to cornerback Brian Williams (knee). This week may not be the time to use them; they play the New Orleans Saints.

However, what follows are drool-inducing matchups with the Washington Redskins and Carolina Panthers, two offenses in disarray that have already proven their values to the fantasy opposition. Atlanta also faces the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12. If you can wait to use them and your league doesn't penalize for points allowed, look to rent Atlanta.

Fantasy football free agents: One-week plays

The following fantasy football pickups are for those who need injury or bye week replacements. They are not players you immediately acquire - unless your team is in dire straights. Some have, however, shown some life and should be followed in case they materialize as options beyond their temporary use.

Detroit Lions (97 percent)

Main reason they're on here: their date with the St. Louis Rams in Week 8. Their superb matchup aside, Detroit recorded 3.33 sacks per contest in the last four weeks (three games). It helps, though, that they face a squad that's giving up 2.75 sacks, along with 1.25 picks and 1.25 lost fumbles, per outing in that time. We know, the Lions are some kind of awful as well, but Detroit has shown a feasible pass rush. As long as your league doesn't punish you for points allowed, the Lions can register enough peripheral stats to make them fantasy-worthy for deprived owners.
