Fantasy Football Waiver WireFantasy Football Waiver Wire: DT - Week 2
By Cory J. Bonini and Bryce McRae Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: QB | RB | WR | TE | PK | DTIf you are serious about winning your fantasy league football championship, stay on top of your fantasy football team throughout the year. Each week during the NFL fantasy football season, KFFL brings you its Fantasy Football Waiver Wire, which breaks down players to pick up. Be aggressive when picking up fantasy football free agents. Even if you do not need a player, you can tuck him away for depth or block others from adding him to their fantasy football team. Note: Percentage of polled leagues in which player is available in parentheses Fantasy football free agents: Look to acquireThe following players will have greater significance in deep fantasy football leagues. In shallow fantasy football leagues, they are not as high of a priority but should be considered based on your fantasy football team's needs. NEW - Kansas City Chiefs (78 percent) Kansas City used their defense and some big plays to stun the San Diego Chargers 21-14 in Week 1. Their stats weren't really fantasy friendly (two sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery), but they showed tenacity and some fire under new defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel. This defense has talent at key positions: defensive linemen Tamba Hali, Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson (knee), linebacker Derrick Johnson and rookie safety Eric Berry. They have a vet linebacker experienced in Crennel's system (Mike Vrabel). They're lined up against the Cleveland Browns this week; that warrants at least a one-week play. And if your league counts special teams points, lean a bit stronger toward adding them. Dexter McCluster ran a punt back 94 yards for a score last week, and Javier Arenas looked dangerous on most of his returns (19.7 yards per). Fantasy football free agents: One-week playsThe following fantasy football pickups are for those who need injury or bye week replacements. They are not players you immediately acquire - unless your team is in dire straights. Some have, however, shown some life and should be followed in case they materialize as options beyond their temporary use. Carolina Panthers (85 percent) The Panthers lost a few star players on defense but didn't relent against the New York Giants in Week 1, intercepting Eli Manning three times. The Panthers recovered a fumble and notched a lone sack in the contest. This week they face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who allowed three sacks, one interception and coughed up a fumble against the Cleveland Browns. Carolina is a worthwhile gamble if you're into playing the matchups. Atlanta Falcons (82 percent) The Dirty Birds logged three sacks and one interception against the Dennis Dixon-led Pittsburgh Steelers in their first game of the year. This week they get to play the Arizona Cardinals and turnover-prone quarterback Derek Anderson. The desert Redbirds lost four fumbles and surrendered two sacks against the not so mighty St. Louis Rams' defense in Week 1. Atlanta should be considered if you're looking for a high-upside defensive play in Week 2. NEW - Tampa Bay Buccaneers (88 percent) Tampa Bay will be facing the Carolina Panthers this week. In Week 1, the Bucs gave up only 14 points to the Cleveland Browns while picking off QB Jake Delhomme three times. They recovered one of three fumbles forced. Carolina could be without tackle Jeff Otah (knee) again this week. Their offensive line is still gelling. Matt Moore (concussion) likely will start against Tampa Bay's improving D. He tossed three picks and was sacked four times last week. Even if the Bucs have trouble stopping the Panthers' running game, they should still have ample opportunities to contribute sacks and takeaways. View Tampa Bay as a strong No. 1 defense this week. Just keep in mind they play the Pittsburgh Steelers next week and have a bye in Week 4. Don't jettison much for them unless you want to start playing musical defenses early.
