Moulds Released by Texans

The Houston Texans released wide receiver Eric Moulds Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Moulds played just one season for the Texans, catching 57 passes for 557 yards and one touchdown in 16 games as the team's No. 2 receiver. The receptions and yardage totals were his lowest since his second year in the league. He had spent the previous 10 seasons with the Buffalo Bills, where he recorded 675 receptions, 9,094 yards and 48 touchdowns. The 33-year-old veteran appears to be on the downside of his career. Last year he averaged only 9.8 yards per reception, his lowest average in that category during his 11-year career.

The team appears to be ready to move in a new direction. The team is open to the possibility of trading quarterback David Carr. They are also rumored to be interested in acquiring Denver Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer. Houston is likely to target a receiver on the first day of the NFL draft, especially because there are few significant names hitting the market.

In fantasy leagues, Moulds had little value this past season; he was at best a fourth receiver on occasion. Until he signs with a team, it's difficult to assess his worth for 2007, but it's unlikely that he'll become very fantasy-relevant no matter which team he joins. Moulds has no keeper value.
