ESPNews reports the Denver Broncos released wide receiver Javon Walker Friday, Feb. 29.

After half a season and only 26 receptions in 2007, Walker was the latest cap casualty. Walker was due $5.4 million in roster bonus money Tuesday, March 4; with his injury history, attitude problems and lack of production, it was a no-brainer for the team to release him. In his first season with the Broncos, Walker looked promising as he caught 69 passes for 1,084 yards. However, he suffered a knee injury last year, which limited him to just eight games. It was also his second major knee injury in the past three seasons.

Walker appears to be living off the name he created in 2004 with the Green Bay Packers. During that season he caught 89 passes for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns. Taking a cue from Terrell Owens' playbook, Walker then demanded a new contract in the offseason or else he wanted out of town. He received his wish with a trade to the Broncos. As was stated above, he did well in his first season in Denver but was plagued by knee troubles last year. The writing appeared to be on the wall when he said that he did not think Denver was the best fit for him this past December. He should find a home with another NFL team as there were plenty interested in him. Wherever he signs, he could be a solid No. 2 wide receiver, although the knee injuries are worrisome, especially for a deep threat such as Walker. The other question is whether or not his ego will let him take a secondary role.

The Broncos will likely look to add another wide receiver this offseason. Wide receiver Brandon Marshall came of age last year with 1,325 yards and seven touchdowns, blossoming into a seemingly legitimate No. 1 receiver. Brandon Stokley, now the No. 2, probably has better value as a No. 3 receiver, which should have the team looking for another receiver in free agency or the draft.
