Fantasy football sleepers: QB | RB | WR | TE | PK | DT

In this article KFFL breaks down the fantasy football sleepers of the week. We will avoid marquee names because players of that caliber are rarely benched, regardless of their matchup. Instead, we will focus on the players that make your fantasy lineup decisions stressful each week. Read on to learn which midrange to low-end players you wouldn't necessarily consider that you need to get into your lineup.

Carson Palmer, Cincinnati Bengals at Carolina Panthers

Fantasy value: Midrange No. 1

  • Carson Palmer, QB, Cincinnati Bengals
Palmer a strong choice in Week 3
We know Palmer can be a strong No. 1 as his Week 1 appearance with 345 passing yards and two scores against the New England Patriots showed.
  • Carolina has struggled against this position so far. They surrendered 178 passing yards and two TDs to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Josh Freeman. The Bucs have one of the weaker receiving corps in the NFC.
  • Also, the week before, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning rang them up for 263 yards and three touchdowns.
  • Palmer has done a good job avoiding the rush so far. Despite facing the Baltimore Ravens D last week, Palmer was sacked just once. He has been taken down just two times on the year. Carolina didn't sack Freeman once last week and Manning just once in Week 1. They're still trying to replace defensive end Julius Peppers (Chicago Bears).

Ryan Fitzpatrick, Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots

Fantasy value: No. 1 or bench

  • Bills head coach Chan Gailey is looking for a spark and inserted Fitzpatrick into the lineup in place of Trent Edwards. Last year, Fitz took over for Edwards in Week 10 and proceeded to throw for 297 yards and one score. Different situation, yes, but he does have some experience filling in on short notice.
  • The Pats could be ripe for an upset. Corners Darius Butler and Devin McCourty, both first-year starters, have struggled, and New England hasn't put a lot of pressure on opposing QBs. Safety Brandon Meriweather, a Pro Bowler in 2009, has essentially been benched.
  • Even if it gets out of hand, the Pats could surrender plenty in garbage time. The Bengals' Palmer threw for 345 yards and two scores against them in Week 1 with a big chunk of that after the game had already been decided.
  • Pick Fitzpatrick up as a one-week play; he is available in virtually all leagues.
