Fantasy football sleepers - Week 2: QB | RB | WR | TE | PK | DT

Fantasy football sleepers: Quarterbacks

Brett Favre, Minnesota Vikings at Detroit Lions

Fantasy value: Low-end No. 1

  • Favre didn't have to do much against a soft Cleveland Browns run defense in Week 1. He'll probably have just as much joy in facing the equally disastrous Detroit unit.
  • If the old man does have to grease up his joints, he should watch the tape of the New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees tearing up the Lions for six throwing scores from last Sunday. He may take a few more sacks than Brees, though....

Jason Campbell, Washington Redskins vs. St. Louis Rams

Fantasy value: Low-end No. 1

  • He had a mixed bag in Week 1 against an intimidating New York Giants pass rush: 19-for-26, 211 yards, one touchdown, one interception and a lost fumble (stripped from behind).
  • Luckily, St. Louis doesn't look as frightening. They allowed 279 passing yards and three air scores during the opening weekend, a noticeable increase from their averages against the position last year.
  • The Rams forced two picks last week, but Campbell doesn't usually turn the ball over often, despite last week's foibles.

NEW - Trent Edwards, Buffalo Bills vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Fantasy value: Low-end No. 1

    Trent Edwards, Buffalo Bills
Start Edwards with confidence this week
  • The third-year passer was surprisingly effective last week against the New England Patriots, and his 8.5 yards-per-attempt average shows he wasn't just settling for the underneath checkdowns.
  • Tampa Bay gave up several long plays to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1, which bodes well for wide receivers Terrell Owens and Lee Evans as deep threats.
  • The Bucs surrendered 353 passing yards and three aerial touchdowns without recording an interception against Dallas in Week 1. They sacked quarterback Tony Romo only once.

NEW - Matt Schaub, Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans

Fantasy value: Low-end No. 1 or bench

  • Week 1 wasn't kind to Schaub or his fantasy owners. He posted a miserable 166-yard, zero-touchdown, one-interception performance against the New York Jets.
  • Wide receiver Kevin Walter (hamstring) missed last week's contest, which naturally weakened Schaub's arsenal. Walter was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 17, and should start Week 2.
  • Tennessee allowed Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to uncharacteristically top the 300-yard mark (363). They gave up just one touchdown pass, though. Schaub will likely be forced to throw a lot if Houston wants to remain in the game.
