Fantasy football sleepers: QB - Week 12

by Tim Heaney on November 23, 2010 @ 16:47:00 PDT

In this article KFFL breaks down the fantasy football sleepers of the week. We will avoid marquee names because players of that caliber are rarely benched, regardless of their matchup. Instead, we will focus on the players that make your fantasy lineup decisions stressful each week. Read on to learn which midrange to low-end players you wouldn't necessarily consider that you need to get into your lineup.

Note: All statistics are from Week 8 to Week 11, unless otherwise stated.

Fantasy football sleepers: Quarterbacks

Matt Cassel, Kansas City Chiefs at Seattle Seahawks

Fantasy value: No. 1 or bench

Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel
This Cassel not made of sand
  • In his last four games, Cassel has nine touchdown passes and one interception, while averaging 257.5 aerial yards. Of course, his 53-attempt, 469-yard Week 10 skews those, but Cassel is nonetheless looking more efficient as a passer.
  • The Seahawks present another opportunity for this to continue; they have given up 326.0 yards and 2.50 passing touchdowns per game while only recording 0.75 interceptions per outing. They allowed the Oakland Raiders' Jason Campbell to throw for 310 yards in Week 8 and the Arizona Cardinals' Derek Anderson to compile 322 yards in Week 10.

Shaun Hill, Detroit Lions vs. New England Patriots

Fantasy value: No. 1 or bench

  • Hill has attempted 97 throws and totaled 612 yards in his last two games since taking the reins from Matthew Stafford (shoulder). The Lions often have to come back via the air, and their run game was already nonexistent without Jahvid Best's toe injuries rendering him uncertain for Week 12.
  • The Patriots' secondary remains young and vulnerable; passers have gained an average of 313.0 yards and 2.00 touchdowns per game on them, along with a 68.4 completion percentage. The Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts comprised those stats.
  • Hill is worth a pickup if you're hurting at the QB position.
