Fantasy football sleepers: PK - Week 8

by Tim Heaney on October 27, 2011 @ 11:39:09 PDT

In this article KFFL breaks down the fantasy football sleepers of the week. We will avoid marquee names because players of that caliber are rarely benched, regardless of their matchup. Instead, we will focus on the players that make your fantasy lineup decisions stressful each week. Read on to learn which midrange to low-end players you wouldn't necessarily consider that you need to get into your lineup.

Note: All statistics are from Week 4 to Week 7, unless otherwise stated.

Fantasy football sleepers: Place kickers

NEW - Olindo Mare, Carolina Panthers vs. Minnesota Vikings

Fantasy value: High-end No. 1

  • The accurate Mare, who boasts an 86.7 three-point success rate this year, has averaged 2.50 FGAs and 2.75 XPAs per game. He's happy to be with the Carolina Panthers, who offer him ample setups, and not the offensively challenged Seattle Seahawks.
  • Boots typically see plenty of points against the Norsemen, who have allowed them to line up for 3.25 field goals and 2.25 touchdown toppers per contest. Carolina should have little trouble moving the ball against this erratic secondary.

Billy Cundiff, Baltimore Ravens vs. Arizona Cardinals

Fantasy value: Midrange No. 1

  • Cundiff is 14-for-17 on field goals this season, including a missed job from 52 yards this past Monday night. The Ravens' offense was sloppy overall, which prevented Cundiff from getting more than an extra point.
  • Luckily, Arizona's defense, who should help recharge Baltimore, has yielded 2.33 field goal tries and 3.67 touchdown cappers per game.
Graham Gano, PK, Washington Redskins
Say yes to Gano

Graham Gano, Washington Redskins at Buffalo Bills

Fantasy value: Midrange No. 1

  • Gano has attempted at least two field goals in four of his last five games. The 'Skins offense sets him often for three-pointers, and his only misses have come in the 30- to 39-yard bracket. He's 2-for-2 from 50-plus yards.
  • The shaky Bills passing defense should set up Washington often, even with John Beck taking snaps. Buffalo has permitted kickers to attempt 2.33 field goals and 2.0 extra points per game.
