Fantasy football sleepers: PK - Week 10

by Tim Heaney on November 12, 2009 @ 13:00:00 PDT

In this article KFFL breaks down the fantasy football sleepers of the week. We will avoid marquee names because players of that caliber are rarely benched, regardless of their matchup. Instead, we will focus on the players that make your fantasy lineup decisions stressful each week. Read on to learn which midrange to low-end players that you wouldn't necessarily consider that you need to get into your lineup.

Note: All statistics are from Week 6 to Week 9, unless otherwise noted.

Fantasy football sleepers: Place kickers

Rob Bironas, Tennessee Titans vs. Buffalo Bills

Fantasy value: Low-end No. 1

  • Bironas has converted on all 12 of his attempts in the last two weeks (five field goals, seven PATs). Bironas has nailed 12 of his 14 three-point tries on the season.
  • Opposing kickers have toyed with the Bills, averaging 2.67 field goal tries and 1.33 extra point setups per contest.
  • Bironas has taken advantage of a Titans offense that can now actually move the football downfield. He has posted 127-plus points in his last two full seasons and should be scooped up in the 44 percent of leagues that still call him available.

NEW - Jay Feely, New York Jets vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Fantasy value: Low-end No. 1

  • Feely has notched double-digit kicking points just once this season, but he has averaged a steady 7.75 per contest in his last four games.
  • He is 4-for-5 from 40-plus yards out, which includes drilling a 55-yarder in Week 8, his only 50-plus attempt on the year.
  • The Jags have given up 2.00 extra point attempts and 2.67 field goal tries per contest, the latter placing them in the bottom 10 among defenses.
Josh Brown, St. Louis Rams vs. New Orleans Saints

Fantasy value: No. 1 or bench

  • Sure, he threw his first NFL pass for a 36-yard touchdown in Week 8, but more importantly the strong boot is 2-for-3 from 50-plus yards as well as the 40- to 49-yard range this season. He has notched kicks of 41-plus yards in each of his last three games.
  • The Saints have forced teams to settle for 2.50 field goal attempts and 3.00 extra point shots per outing. Safe to say the Rams will probably have a chance to use Brown often, if they can move the ball.
  • Brown can be scooped up for a one-week play in about 88 percent of polled leagues.
