Fantasy football busts: QB | RB | WR | TE | PK | DT

In this article KFFL breaks down fantasy football busts of the week. Some high-level players will be included, because you need to know when is time to sit a player even though it may not seem appropriate. Primarily, however, we will address the midrange to low-end fantasy options that you rack your brain over each week. Read on to learn which of these players that you wouldn't want in your lineup.

Note: All statistical averages are from Week 3 to Week 6, unless otherwise specified.

Fantasy football busts: Tight ends

Marcedes Lewis, Jacksonville Jaguars at Kansas City Chiefs

Fantasy value: Midrange No. 1

  • Most of Lewis' value has come from his touchdowns. He is averaging only 3.25 receptions for 32.5 yards per game but has caught three touchdowns passes since Week 2.
  • Kansas City has done a good job limiting this position despite facing some of the league's top tight ends. KC is allowing 4.67 receptions for 47.0 yards and 0.33 receiving touchdowns. Included in that is a Week 4 effort that saw them limit the Indianapolis Colts' Dallas Clark to only three receptions for 20 yards.
  • Todd Bouman might be the Jags' starting quarterback this week with David Garrard (concussion) and Trent Edwards (thumb) both iffy. Sure, it's possible he'll rely on the tight end more, but just as likely is that this offense has trouble even moving the ball without relying heavily on Maurice Jones-Drew. Don't take the risk Jacksonville's offense stalls under Bouman.

Kellen Winslow, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. St. Louis Rams

Kellen Winslow, TE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Can Winslow find the end zone?

Fantasy value: Low-end No. 1

  • Winslow is averaging 5.33 receptions (fifth most) for 47.3 receiving yards (12th most), but he has yet to find the end zone in any game this year.
  • St. Louis is giving up just 4.50 receptions (tied for 12th fewest), 39.5 receiving yards (fourth fewest) and 0.25 receiving touchdowns (tied for sixth) per game to this position.
  • The Rams have decent safeties in Oshiomogho Atogwe and Craig Dahl that should be able to neutralize Winslow on the deeper passes. Sure, it helped that the San Diego Chargers' Antonio Gates (toe) left early last week, but from Weeks 1 through 5, St. Louis had surrendered the sixth fewest fantasy points to this position in non-PPR leagues.
