Fantasy football busts: QB | RB | WR | TE | PK | DT

In this article KFFL breaks down fantasy football busts of the week. Some high-level players will be included, because you need to know when is time to sit a player even though it may not seem appropriate. Primarily, however, we will address the midrange to low-end fantasy options that you rack your brain over each week. Read on to learn which of these players that you wouldn't want in your lineup.

Note: All statistical averages are from Week 1 to Week 2, unless otherwise specified.

Fantasy football busts: Tight ends

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Kellen Winslow
Soldier on against Troy?

Kellen Winslow, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Fantasy value: Low-end No. 1 or flex

  • Winslow (knee) proved it's what counts on Sunday, not what you do in practice during the week. He caught four passes (for the second straight week) for 83 yards in the Bucs' win over the Carolina Panthers last week.
  • The Steelers limited the Atlanta Falcons' Tony Gonzalez to just two catches for 35 yards in Week 1. Steelers strong safety Troy Polamalu is one of best safeties in the league and one of the reasons this defense is strong against opposing tight ends.
  • Tampa Bay's second-year quarterback Josh Freeman should see plenty of different looks from the Steelers' 3-4 defense. In order to keep him from turning the ball over, the Bucs might opt to keep the ball on the ground - though they'll probably run into trouble against Pittsburgh's top-notch run D.

NEW - Greg Olsen, Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers

Fantasy value: No. 1 or flex

  • In the historical fashion of a Mike Martz-led offense, Olsen hasn't been heavily involved in the game plan. The former Miami Hurricane scored on his only reception last week, which went for 39 yards following a great downfield block and a poor angle taken by Dallas Cowboys free safety Alan Ball on the play. The athletic tight end has produced five catches for 76 yards and the aforementioned score through two games.
  • The Packers have allowed an average of just two receptions for 23 yards per game to tight ends; the position has not scored a touchdown through two games. Last year, Green Bay allowed only 4.00 receptions per game to this position, so they've done a good job shutting down tight ends since defensive coordinator Dom Capers arrived.
  • If you are desperate, sneak Olsen into your lineup. The fact that his lone target came on the scoring play doesn't bode well for his chances of being a worthwhile Week 3 fantasy play.
