Fantasy football busts: TE - Week 10

by Tim Heaney and Bryce McRae on November 12, 2009 @ 13:00:00 PDT

In this article KFFL breaks down fantasy football busts of the week. Some high-level players will be included, because you need to know when is time to sit a player even though it may not seem appropriate. Primarily, however, we will address the midrange to low-end fantasy options that you rack your brain over each week. Read on to learn which of these players that you wouldn't want in your lineup.

Note: All statistics are from Week 6 to Week 9, unless otherwise noted.

Fantasy football busts: Tight ends

Zach Miller, Oakland Raiders vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Fantasy value: Midrange No. 1

  • Miller remains a focus of the Raiders offense and has been targeted at least six times in three of his last five outings. He has registered at least four receptions in three of his last four games, giving Oakland some semblance of a receiving threat.
  • Oddly enough, the Chiefs have surrendered just 4.00 receptions and 42.3 yards per game to tight ends while shutting them out of the end zone entirely.
  • The Raiders hope to welcome back running back Darren McFadden (knee) in Week 10, and they'll probably feed the ball to him and the rest of their running backs against a typically vulnerable Chiefs front seven.

NEW - Tony Scheffler, Denver Broncos at Washington Redskins

Fantasy value: No. 1 or flex

  • Scheffler has just one reception in each of the last two games, totaling only 12 yards. He has just three targets in those two games.
  • This is the wrong week to hope for a rebound from Scheffler; Washington has surrendered just 3.33 receptions and 21.7 receiving yards per game to this position.
  • Denver's conservative offense typically allows the opposing secondary to play up close to the line of scrimmage as they don't have to worry about the deep pass. With so many defenders around, it can be tough for quarterback Kyle Orton to get the ball to Scheffler. The Broncos offense does not call for Orton to force many tight throws, either.
