Fantasy football busts - Week 1: QB | RB | WR | TE | PK | DT

In this article KFFL breaks down the fantasy football busts of the week. Some high-level players will be included, because you need to know when is time to sit a player even though it may not seem appropriate. Primarily, however, we will address the midrange to low-end fantasy options that you rack your brain over each week. Read on to learn which of these players that you wouldn't want in your lineup.

Steve Slaton, Houston Texans
It could be a down week for Gonzo

Tony Gonzalez, Atlanta Falcons vs. Miami Dolphins

Fantasy value: Midrange No. 1

  • On the surface, Gonzo should block more for the Falcons this year and see his targets go down on average, given their more well-rounded offense.
  • Miami tied with four other teams for the fewest receiving touchdowns allowed per game to tight ends in '08 (0.06), despite ranking in the middle of the pack in receptions allowed to them (3.69).

NEW - Visanthe Shiancoe, Minnesota Vikings at Cleveland Browns

Fantasy value: Midrange No. 1

  • Despite the second - err, third - coming of tight end-friendly slinger Brett Favre, Shiancoe faces a tough matchup for his stats. The Browns tied for the 10th fewest receptions per game (3.50) to the position last year. They also tied with four other teams for the fewest touchdowns allowed to tight ends per game (0.06).
  • It's safe to assume the Vikes will employ the run game more often against the colander-esque Browns.
