Fantasy football busts: QB | RB | WR | TE | PK | DT

In this article KFFL breaks down fantasy football busts of the week. Some high-level players will be included, because you need to know when is time to sit a player even though it may not seem appropriate. Primarily, however, we will address the midrange to low-end fantasy options that you rack your brain over each week. Read on to learn which of these players that you wouldn't want in your lineup.

Note: All statistics are from Week 5 to Week 8, unless otherwise noted.

Fantasy football busts: Defensive teams

Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos

Fantasy value: Low-end No. 1

  • Pittsburgh has averaged 4.33 sacks (the most in the league) and 1.33 interceptions per game over the last month. They've also allowed just 11.0 points per game in that time. Of course, they faced the Detroit Lions and the Cleveland Browns during that stretch, so take those with a grain of salt.
  • The Broncos have allowed just 1.67 sacks per game in the last month (three games), and quarterback Kyle Orton has thrown only one interception in that time.
  • Denver was embarrassed by the Baltimore Ravens' 3-4 defense last week. The Steelers employ a similar scheme; Denver, who has proven to be adept at adjusting to what opponents show them, could use last week's beating as a blueprint for what to correct this week.

New York Giants vs. San Diego Chargers

Fantasy value: No. 1 or bench

  • New York has managed 2.75 sacks per game over the last month, an improvement over their first quarter average of 2.00, but they have just one pick since Week 5.
  • The Chargers' averages over the last month (three games): 2.00 sacks allowed, 0.33 interceptions and 0.67 fumbles lost per game.
  • The Giants have been burned by opposing quarterbacks during the last month; San Diego's preferred method of attack is through the air, so they might be able to exploit New York's primary weakness this week.
